PROVENANCE

This elk horn quirt was acquired by Mordecai Thomas Bartram (1843-1904) a government licensed trader to the Iowa and Sauk between 1871 and 1873 at the Great Nemaha Indian Agency, Nohart, Nebraska. The quirt, together with a group of Bartram’s letters and other objects were passed down through the Bartram family.
