Visionary Drawing Included in White Columns Annual
Donald Ellis Gallery is pleased to announce that a Visionary Drawing by a Lakota warrior artist is included in Looking Back: The 13th White Columns Annual, selected by the New York-based curator Olivia Shao.
Organised annually, the exhibition reviews the cultural landscape of New York from the perspective of an individual or collaborative team of curators. The drawing chosen by Shao depicts Shukawakan, or Holy Dog as horses are known in Lakota, in a transformative state with the Star Nation witnessing above. Created in the late 19th century, the page derives from the Amidon Ledger Book and is one of a handful of known visionary drawings.
Looking Back: The 13th White Columns Annual will be on view at 91 Horatio St, New York, January 20 - March 4, 2023.
